Message / Question are there certain people who shouldn’t become pastors?
Response:
I guess the simple answer to the question would be “yes, anyone whom God did not call to be a pastor”.
An important thing to remember, is that becoming a pastor is not a career choice, it is imperative that a person who wants to become a pastor is clearly called by God. Whilst there are certain practical things that one can (and really needs to) learn in appropriate ministry training (theology, ministerial practice and ethic etc.), only God can properly equip a man or woman to be an effective pastor. It has often been said that “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called”. In my opinion, this is one significant reason why there is such a large “drop out” rate in ministry, a lot of people who take up a pastoral role are simply not called by God to do so.
