Message / Question
is it possible for a Christian to be too rich ? how about pastors ?
Response
Every Christian is infinitely rich in that we share not only the riches of God’s grace, but we have a God who supplies our needs. In terms of earthly wealth, God allows or trusts some with great wealth – it is as though the capacity to manage wealth is a gift from God. Provided wealth is created legitimately and in a morally responsible way, it is fine for a Christian (whether a Pastor or not) to have wealth – of course the definition of “too rich” will vary from person to person. I believe that God will require us to give account to Him of what we did with what He entrusted to us. Some have suggested that the way that “tele evangelists” raise personal wealth is inappropriate. Without knowing the details of what individuals have done and how their wealth was created, I am not in a position to pass judgment on them, but I must admit to feeling morally uncomfortable at the way that I have seen some such people appear to fund raise!
