Message / Question

It sounds like you feel that your church has got it wrong on confession, and not doing it. Why don't Pentecostals do confessions?

Response

Not sure why you imagine that I think our church has it wrong on this point. 1John 1:9 talks about confessing sin, but firstly, the “confession” is made to God, not man and secondly the word “confess” doesn’t mean to list in detail everything that you’ve done that you see was wrong. The Greek word used here (homologōmen) means to “say the same” i.e. to agree. The concept is not one of going to God at the end of the day and saying “these are the things that I did wrong today......” rather we agree with Him that we’ve sinned and then appropriate His already given forgiveness. Why don't Pentecostals do confessions? We do – the individual comes in the way that I’ve just noted to God rather than man for forgiveness comes from Him alone.
