Dealing with problems in marriage

What do you do if there are very irreconcilable differences between husband and wife, which are because of personality and upbringing rather than anything to do with God? e.g. husband wants to discipline children but wife thinks it's physical abuse, wife wants husband to get permission from her before making purchases, e.t.c.

I think that they should seek professional advice and guidance, either from a pastor or a professional marriage counsellor. No matter how well the circumstances are described on paper, it would be unwise to comment without discussing the matter with the couple involved.
