Message / Question

hey doc dave, did you go to hillsong conference? what ya think about it esp given youve pastored mostly smaller churches?

Response

I have attended quite a few Hillsong Conferences, but I didn’t get to the last few. Hillsong Conference is quite unique in Australia – where else do you get a chance to be in a room with over 20,000 people worshipping God together!!?? Most of the teaching that I have heard at Hillsong Conferences has been good, so all up, if you have the energy to get your right venue between sessions and can afford trip and accommodation etc, it’s worth going.

Regarding “smaller” churches. What is a small church? In my view, one of the biggest churches in Australia is regularly attended by about 120 people. Not a lot of people? Depends how you count it – the church is in a country town of less than 1,000 people, giving that church better than 10% of the town population as regular attendees. That would require several hundred thousand people to be attending a church in Sydney to “match” the size of that country church. It’s all in the way that you choose to see it. But I am sure that God doesn’t see “small” and “big” churches, I don’t think that He measures the size of the congregation, He just measures the faithfulness of people attending!
